Book Traveling Thursdays is a weekly feature created by Danielle’s Book Blog and The Girl Who Read Too Much that highlights book covers from around the world.
This week’s theme was chosen in honor of International Women’s Day and centers around a book with a bad ass heroine.
While I had a lot of ladies to choose from, I ultimately settled on the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy’s protagonist Karou, a strong-willed lady with bright blue hair who steals teeth, draws monsters and has a passion for magic.
In addition to being witty and clever, Karou is also an extremely empowered lady with the ability to create new creatures, which comes into play in the second book in the series — my personal favorite — Days of Blood & Starlight.
Haven’t read the series yet? This beautifully written YA trilogy is a must for fantasy lovers!

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.
This is not that world.
Art student and monster’s apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is–and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.
In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.
While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope.
But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?
Wow they have some really nice covers for this book! I need to finish this trilogy soon haha. Great list!
Here’s mine!
Definitely finish it, the series has a very satisfying finale! =)
I did Daughter of Smoke and Bone for this meme a few weeks ago, we picked mostly the same countries for our favorites, I’m glad they still look awesome for the third book 😀
My BTT this week
There were so many options too, which was great!
I’m Portuguese and I’m so happy with the Portuguese editions! I only have the first book, but I can’t wait to read, so that I get the others! They all look beautiful! The German one looks good, too! 😀
Yes, I looked at the Portuguese editions for the first two books and they are both beautiful! Happy reading!
Yes, indeed!
Thanks 😀
There are some really good covers and some really bad ones. I think I like the us one best I think, but sooooo many good ones!!
I agree, the US one is definitely gorgeous! For some reason I always neglect the covers from my country when I round up favorites and least favorites.
