This week’s theme was to choose a book with “an eye candy cover,” read: a book that you bought solely because of its amazing cover — also known as a cover buy.

I was initially drawn to Nicola Yoon’s Everything Everything because of the dynamic cover, and it was the main reason I bought this contemporary novel which is a tad out of my normal genre zone.

In fact, had it not been for the cover, I probably wouldn’t have given this young adult romance about a bubble girl who falls in love with the boy next door a second thought.

Book Traveling Thursdays: A Book With a Bad Ass Heroine

This week’s theme was chosen in honor of International Women’s Day and centers around a book with a bad ass heroine.

While I had a lot of ladies to choose from, I ultimately settled on the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy’s protagonist Karou, a strong-willed lady with bright blue hair who steals teeth, draws monsters and has a passion for magic.

In addition to being witty and clever, Karou is also an extremely empowered lady with the ability to create new creatures, which comes into play in the second book in the series — my personal favorite — Days of Blood & Starlight.

Book Traveling Thursdays: A Character You Love to Hate

This week’s theme was to choose a book with a character you love to hate, and my mind immediately went to the antagonist of The Lunar Chronicles: Queen Levana, an attempted baby murderer bent on universal domination.

Inspired by Snow White’s evil stepmother, Levana comes complete with a tragic past, a great fashion sense and a seriously evil personality.

While I could have chosen to highlight Levana’s prequel Fairest, it just didn’t seem right considering the majority of the book you’re meant to empathize with this future villainess, and let’s be honest, Marissa Meyer’s Cress has some amazing covers to choose from.

Book Traveling Thursdays: 2016 Book to Movie Adaptation

Book Traveling Thursdays is a weekly feature created by Danielle’s Book Blog and The Girl Who Read Too Much that highlights book covers from around the world.

This week’s theme takes advantage of the increasing number of book to movie adaptations coming out in 2016, and while I would have loved to tackle Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, there just isn’t enough time to sort through all those covers. Also, I refuse to acknowledge that adaptation that shall not be named.

So instead, I chose Patrick Ness’ haunting A Monster Calls, which already has a trailer and everything — everything being Liam Neeson.

The movie won’t be out until October 14, 2016, so you’ll just have to spend your time reading the book before it hits the big screen.

Book Traveling Thursdays: Favorite Book Read in 2015

This week’s theme is not so much a theme as much as it’s a conscious choice. Seeing as it’s the last day of 2015 (Already? But how?) today’s Book Traveling Thursday topic is the number one book you read this year.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I loved loved loved The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, which is a beautifully written and incredibly romantic retelling of The Arabian Nights.

Romantic? It’s a story about a man who murders his wives! I know, just trust me.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell is incredibly smart and was a close second, but I absolutely devoured The Wrath and the Dawn, earning it its spot at the top of my 2015 reads.

Book Traveling Thursdays: A Book With Gift Giving

This week’s theme is a book in which a character gives an amazing gift to a loved one, and the Throne of Glass sequel Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas immediately came to mind — probably because I read it super recently.

Without spoiling anything, I will say that in the novel, bad ass assassin turned King’s Champion Celaena Sardothien throws a fancy birthday dinner for Captain of the Guard Chaol Westfall and things go swimmingly.

In addition to the dinner, there’s also a jewelry exchange that comes into play throughout the series — including in the latest book Queen of Shadows — and oh god, my heart.

Book Traveling Thursdays: Favorite Fractured Fairy Tale

Book Traveling Thursdays is a weekly feature created by Danielle’s Book Blog and The Girl Who Read Too Much that highlights book covers from around the world.

This week’s theme is fairy tale retellings and as a huge fan of fractured fairy tales, it seemed like the perfect week to join in on the fun.

The selection for our very first prompt is Gregory Maguire’s Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. While not as well-loved as the musical (which is way more uplifting and not nearly as dark), I really enjoyed Wicked when I read it way back in 2003. It’s sequel Son of a Witch? Not so much.

Wicked, Maguire’s first — and most successful — foray into fairy tale retellings follows the early life of the Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba), her friendship with Glinda the Good Witch (Galinda) and her demise at the hands of Dorothy.
